Creamy Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip

Creamy Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip

Summer is here! A detailed recipe for a healthy Fruit Dip, designed to be delicious, easy to make, and a perfect complement to fresh fruit.

Cuisine: American

Dietary Preferences: Heart-Healthy

Description: This creamy and light fruit dip uses Greek yogurt as its base, making it a protein-packed and heart-healthy alternative to traditional dips made with cream cheese or sour cream. The addition of honey and vanilla extract enhances the natural sweetness of the fruit, creating a delightful and guilt-free treat.

Yields: Approximately 1 1/2 cups

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Chill Time: 15 minutes (optional, but recommended)

Estimated Nutritional Information (per 2 tablespoons serving):

* Calories: 60-70

* Protein: 5-6g

* Carbohydrates: 8-10g (naturally occurring sugars from honey and yogurt)

* Fat: 1-2g

* Fiber: 0g

Note: Nutritional information is an estimate and can vary based on specific ingredient brands and portion sizes.

Ingredients:

* 1 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt (ensure it's strained for a thicker consistency)

* 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)

* 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

* 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (optional, but adds a nice brightness)

* Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)

Equipment:

* Medium-sized mixing bowl

* Whisk or spoon

* Measuring spoons and cups

* Zester (if using lemon zest)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Yogurt: Place the Greek yogurt in the mixing bowl. If your yogurt seems a bit watery, you can strain it through a cheesecloth-lined sieve for about 30 minutes to remove excess liquid. This will result in a thicker, creamier dip.

2. Add Sweetener: Add the honey (or maple syrup) to the Greek yogurt. Start with 2 tablespoons and adjust to your desired sweetness. Remember that the fruit will also contribute to the overall sweetness.

3. Incorporate Flavorings: Add the vanilla extract and lemon zest (if using) to the bowl. The lemon zest adds a subtle citrusy note that complements the fruit beautifully.

4. Mix Thoroughly: Using a whisk or spoon, gently mix all the ingredients together until they are well combined and the mixture is smooth and creamy. Avoid over-mixing, as this can make the yogurt thin.

5. Add Spice (Optional): If desired, add a pinch of ground cinnamon for a warm, comforting flavor.

6. Chill (Optional): For the best flavor and texture, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dip in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together. Although, you can serve immediately if you don't have time to chill it.

7. Serve: Transfer the fruit dip to a serving bowl and arrange your favorite fresh fruits around it.

Serving Suggestions:

* Fruit Platter: Serve with a variety of fresh fruits such as:

* Strawberries

* Blueberries

* Raspberries

* Blackberries

* Apple slices (toss with a little lemon juice to prevent browning)

* Banana slices

* Kiwi slices

* Pineapple chunks

* Mango chunks

* Grapes

* Other Dipping Options:

* Graham crackers

* Animal crackers

* Pretzel sticks (for a sweet and salty combination)

* Garnish: Sprinkle a few fresh mint leaves or a light dusting of cinnamon on top of the dip for a beautiful presentation.

Tips and Variations:

* Sweetness Adjustment: Adjust the amount of honey (or maple syrup) to your preference. Taste the dip after adding the initial amount and add more if needed.

* Citrus Variations: Experiment with different citrus zests, such as orange or lime, for a unique flavor profile.

* Spice It Up: Add a pinch of ground ginger or nutmeg for a warmer, more festive flavor.

* Chocolate Touch: Stir in a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder for a chocolate-flavored dip.

* Vegan Option: Use a plant-based yogurt alternative (such as coconut or almond yogurt) and maple syrup in place of honey.

* Storage: Store leftover fruit dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The texture may change slightly upon storage, so give it a good stir before serving.

Enjoy this delicious and healthy fruit dip with your favorite fruits! It's a perfect addition to any gathering or a simple and satisfying snack.

Morning Strawberry Protein Shake

Garden Strawberries So, I like strawberries, and it is the season for all of us back yard growers to start picking! I downsized my plot of plants, but I still have some to pick periodically as they ripen.  The local farms should be ready for the "you pick deals" from June - mid July now! There are quite a few growers in the PNW to choose from. A local favorite is the  Biringer Farm , you can check out their website for more information.  After, of course, the morning coffee, I will make my breakfast shake. It consists of one cup of unsweetened almond milk, unsweetened coconut milk, or unsweetened oat milk. Normally when watching calories, I will opt for almond or coconut milk. I also like at times to mix all three to make one full cup!  I will add one scoop of whey, my morning vitamin, and one cup of frozen strawberries. Sometimes I will add a frozen banana or frozen blueberries. My favorite is just using strawberries. I blend this for about a minute to make sure eve...
